Knowing and using your average sales per day allows a team leader to meet customer service needs and profitability at the same time. In addition, understanding sales trends, and when they occur, allows a team to provide better product availability while minimizing shrink. Let’s review the following data. It is a 5-week average of daily sales for a produce department.

Simply comparing your staff schedule to when sales are generated gives the operator the opportunity to improve customer service, maximize product availability, and improve sales. It allows a team leader and buyer to be prepared for higher sales and better engagement of customers, possible missed opportunities, and to listen to customer needs and requests.
When analyzing labor distribution and you discover that on busier days your staff levels are below slower days an adjustment can easily be made. By using small uncomplicated available metrics efficiencies can be made without a lot pain.
